Welcome to The Linesider

The Linesider is a quarterly 64-page full colour magazine celebrating New Zealand’s railways.  The magazine has been in print since September 2020, and features high-quality photography, articles, news and opinion pieces.

From September 2025, The Linesider magazine has been published by the New Zealand Railway and Locomotive Society.

Anyone in New Zealand, whether a NZRLS member or not, can subscribe to The Linesider for $80 annually (4 issues), or about 10% off the cover price.  NZR&LS members receive an additional discount.

Existing NZRLS Members please use the usual membership renewal form (on the NZRLS Website) under the Members section and chose the combined package option under the drop down menu for subscriptions.

We are now in a position to offer The Linesider online to overseas customers.  If you live in Australia you can receive physical copies for NZ$185 annually (4 copies) or NZ$74 for digital access to the magazine.  Due to postage costs we do not intend to post magazines beyond Australia but the rest of the world can subscribe for digital access to the magazine for NZ$74 annually.

Access to the digital magazines and subscriber only website content is removed when the subscription expires or the member is no longer financial.

Notice: Earlier on-line editions of The Linesider (since NZRLS took over publishing i.e. Issue 21 onwards) are available under the Back Issues tab (once member is logged in).  NZRLS does hold paper copies of earlier issues going back several years.  Please contact nzrls.books@actrix.co.nz if you wish to order a back copy.
